Nathan Froehling

Nate grew up in Maple Lake, MN, graduating in 1994. He attended Fergus Falls Community College and transferred to the University of Minnesota, graduating in 1999, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mortuary Science. After graduation, he moved to Hinckley and went to work with Peter Methven. In 2018, Nate and Ryan purchased the funeral homes from Peter.
Nate is married to Emma, a kindergarten teacher at Hinckley Elementary School, and together they have 3 children, Brody, Colton, and Danika. Nate and his family are members of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. He enjoys spending time with family and friends, going hunting, fishing, golfing, camping, and being outdoors.

Ryan was born and raised in Mora, Minnesota. Upon graduation from high school in 1995, he attended one year at Concordia College in Moorhead, MN. At the urging of his high school counselor, who also happened to be his mother, he began looking into the field of mortuary science. After extensive conversations with Peter Methven, who Ryan had known nearly all of his life, he was sold on the profession. He transferred to the University of Minnesota to begin classes in mortuary science his sophomore year. While enrolled at the University, Ryan worked - and lived - at Evans-Nordby Funeral Home in Brooklyn Center, gaining invaluable experience. He also held a second job at the Anatomical Bequest Program in the University of Minnesota's Medical School. After graduating from the University in 1999, he served his internship at O'Halloran & Murphy Funeral Home and Roseville Memorial Chapel. In 2000, he returned home to work with Peter and Nate. He is married and has three wonderful step-children. In his free time he enjoys golf and curling. He is also a member of the Lions Club, the Masonic Lodge and serves on the City of Mora's Public Utilities Commission.

Jessica joined Methven Funeral Homes in the fall of 2018. She is a graduate of Mora High School and received her Business degree from Metropolitan State University. She and her husband, Jason, live in Mora with their two children.

Pastor Kate Mensing has been a pastor in the area since 2014, serving as Associate Pastor at Grace Lutheran Church in Mora, and most recently at Faith Lutheran Church in Isle. Gene Stifter of Mora, formerly of Richfield, Minnesota, passed away on April 17, 2026, at his home, at the age of 78.
He was born March 23, 1948, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Clemence and Irene (Levins) Stifter. He grew up in Hopkins, Minnesota, the oldest of two children. He attended St. Joseph’s Catholic Grade School in Hopkins and Benilde High School in St. Louis Park. After high school, he attended the University of Minnesota, majoring in mortuary science and graduating in 1970. He was then licensed as a mortician by the Minnesota Board of Health. He worked full time as a mortician in the Twin Cities. Upon his retirement in 2010, he began working part-time as a mortician at Methven Funeral Homes.
He married Kris Schreier in Slayton, Minnesota (1991). Following their marriage, they resided in Richfield. Gene was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, serving on the Parish Council, as a Lector, as a Eucharistic Minister, in Homebound Ministry, Teaching R.C.I.A., and as Church Sacristan. He also volunteered with the Kanabec Hospice. He served as Peace Township Supervisor and as an Election Judge. Gene was a member of the Eagles and K.C. His greatest passions were serving his church and serving families as a Mortician for over 50 years. His hobbies included flying single-engine aircraft, fishing, boating, bowling, hunting, and traveling.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Kris, and brother, Cal.
He is survived by his special friend, Kathy; sister-in-law, Harriet; niece, Kristin; nephew, Stephen; and grandnieces.

Betty Smith was born and raised in Mora. She worked at the Kanabec County Hospital and Mora Medical Center for many years before joining Methven Funeral Homes in 1988. Betty retired in April 2020.

Katie and Cole are licensed Funeral Directors who live and raise their family in Moose Lake, Minnesota. Katie is from Sturgeon Lake, and Cole is from Clara City. They met at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities, where they both earned their Bachelor’s Degrees in Mortuary Science in 2017. They began working part-time with Methven Funeral Home in 2023. Katie and Cole are passionate about community, caring for people while sharing in their grief, and helping to create meaningful services for loved ones who have died.
They stay busy with additional full-time careers and raising their three young children, while enjoying time spent together as a family, savoring good coffee, exploring Minnesota’s North Shore, and are members of Hope Lutheran Church in Moose Lake.
