William Syrus McCarty III, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at his home in Mora, Minnesota, on August 6, 2025, at the age of 87. Born on December 21, 1937, William grew up in the Minneapolis area, attending Minnehaha Academy and graduating from Roosevelt High School in 1955.

He married the love of his life, Marilyn Ruth Nord, on October 21, 1961, in a warm ceremony at her grandmother's house, beginning a beautiful journey together that would last over six decades. William proudly served his community as a member of the American Legion Post 250 in Minneapolis.

A man of many passions, William enjoyed deer hunting and snowmobiling.  He was active in 4-H with his family.  He was known for his excitement over getting a new vehicle and took great pride in his meticulously cared-for lawn.  He loved playing cribbage and made sure every on of his grandchildren knew how to play.

William is preceded in death by his father, William McCarty Jr., his mother and stepfather Helen (Robert) Wilcox and brother Al Blesener.  He leaves behind his loving wife, Marilyn, his children Deborah Lynn Hanson, Laurie (Scott) Johnson, Michael (Nancy) McCarty, and Mark (Michelle) McCarty. He is also survived by his brother Jack Blesener, along with eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren who will cherish the memories they created with him.

A Celebration of Life will take place on August 30, 2025, from 12:00 until 3:00 PM at the Kanabec County History Center, where friends and family will gather to honor and remember William's remarkable life.  Military honors will take place at 12:30 by the Mora American Legion Post 201.
