William (Bill) D. Tenquist of Sandstone, MN passed away on May 14, 2025, at Essentia-St. Mary's Campus in Duluth, MN.

Bill was born on November 22, 1958, to William (Bill) B. and Margaret A. (Libra) Tenquist. Bill lived in Deephaven, MN until 1972, when he moved with his family to Sandstone, MN. While a student at Sandstone High School he excelled in track and became a semi-finalist in the National Merit Scholar Program. After graduation from high school in 1977, he attended the University of MN for a year before beginning his work career. Ultimately, he became a machinist, working as a supervisor at Twin City Die Castings until his retirement.

Upon retirement he returned to Sandstone to take over the hobby farm where he grew up and to take care of his mom, Margaret.

Bill was wicked smart, vocal, and persistent. He usually had the last say in discussions. He enjoyed tinkering in the shop, restoring classic cars, target shooting (he was a gun safety instructor for a time), and spending time with friends and family. Interested in conservation, Bill always had a wildlife update from the farm when we called. He was a talented photographer, who was published in magazines and calendars and gifting us with pictures which have been in our various homes over the years.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Marge, and his nephew, Ben. He is survived by his family: siblings, Jane (Kevin), Cathy, Tom (Rasy); his nephew Jake; his niece, Elizabeth; as well as aunts, Bernice, Betty, Mabel; and many cousins.

A graveside service will be held for Bill at 10am on Friday, July 18, 2025 at the Spring Park Cemetery in Sandstone, MN. A celebration of life will be held for Bill following the service at the family farm.
