Obituary

Willard "Willie" David Strom died peacefully while ice fishing on Friday, December 10, 2021.  He was 85 years old.

Willie was born on March 28, 1936 in Peace Township to Walter and Genevieve Strom.  He attended Emerson Country School.  In November 1954, he enlisted in the Army and went on active duty for two years in Germany.  He then went into the Army Reserves and retired after 30 years of service.

In May of 1958 he married Barbara Amundson in Dallas, Wisconsin.  They lived in Spring Lake Park and Mora with their children, David, Jean and Christie.

He worked at Superior Plating for 20 years before he started Strom's Construction where he built new and remodeled existing homes.

He was an active member in the American Legion Post 201.  He served as Commander, 10 th District Commander, Historian, Dept Historian, Dept Vice Commander and Membership Director. He was also involved in the Sons of the American Legion, DAV, Lion's Club, 40 & 8 Club and VFW.

He enjoyed fishing, lawn and gardening, deer hunting, playing cards, playing Farkle and traveling.  His favorite hobby of all was fishing lakes in the area.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter Strom and Genevieve Campbell, infant children, Thomas and Debbie, grandson Allen Strom, sister Dorothy Jacobson, brothers Robert and Roger Strom.

Willie is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Barbara, his faithful dog Bebe; children David (Marie) Strom, Jean (Brian) Shallbetter and Christie (Dave) Hladky; grandchildren Matthew, Chris, Logan, Shawn, Nick, Tanya and Jenny; great-grandchildren Aubrey, Ava, Hunter, Eddie, Clara, and Henry; sister Myrtle Strom and brother Clifford (Cheryl) Strom, and many nieces, nephews and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 8, 2022, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Mora with Rev. Dean Oelfke officiating.  Visitation will be on Friday, January 7, 2022, from 6 until 8 P.M. at Dresser-Methven Funeral Home in Mora as well as one hour prior to the service at the church.  Burial will take place at Ft. Ripley in Little Falls at a later date.
