Violet Jean Johnsen of Sandstone, MN passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, September 17, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She was 94 years old.

Violet was born December 9, 1928, to Jacob and Lena (Vork) Ploeger in Sandstone, MN. She attended the Groningen School and graduated from Sandstone High School. On August 13, 1949, Violet married Bobbie Johnsen. They made their home in Askov, MN. Violet was a smart and bright woman; she enjoyed working with the public and numbers. She started at the Sandstone Bank as a bank teller and retired as the vice president of the Askov Bank. Throughout her life community was very important to Violet. She was active in the Pine Medical Center Auxiliary where she volunteered with hospice. Violet was involved in a sewing club which led her to sewing quilts, cross stitching, and knitting. She loved to make quilts, afghans, and knitted dish rags for family and friends. The holiday Violet loved the most was Christmas. Her joy of the holiday was making a huge Christmas Eve meal for her family, siblings, and their children. Birthday celebrations were also a favorite of Violets, she would make popcorn cakes for family and friends.

Violet is preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and Lena (Vork) Ploeger; her loving husband Bobbie; son, Terry; siblings, Vera, Fannie, Bob, and Johnny.

Violet is survived by her children; Doug of Marcell, MN, Kerry Joy (Gene) of Sandstone, MN, Jeff of Finlayson, MN; her sister, June (Arnie) of Elgin, IL; six grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; many wonderful nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made to St. Croix Hospice.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at the Sandstone Evangelical Free Church, with Pastor Chris Cundiff officiating. Visitation will take place from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. before the service at the church.
