Vera was raised on a farm near Bathgate, North Dakota, ''only a couple of miles from the Canadian border," Her childhood was described as ''hard work and farm chores'' while living in various locations in North Dakota and Minnesota. Her high school years were spent in Hinckley, Minnesota, where she met the love of her life, Leonard Lee Frye. Vera and Len were married April 2, 1947, in Pine City, Minnesota. Together they raised four daughters while living in various locations around Minneapolis and the Western suburbs. Vera was employed in healthcare and truly shone while caring for others. In Len's retirement years, they moved to Grand Rapids, MN, where they enjoyed bird watching, nature in the parks, dancing, and making new friends. She loved listening to music, singing with Len, drawing, painting, crocheting, traveling, flower arranging, and decorating for the seasons.
She was especially known for her strawberry waffle and bacon breakfasts. In her later years, she and Len moved to the St. Cloud area for health reasons. She spent the last two years in the Good Shepherd Nursing Home, in Sauk Rapids, Minnesota, due to health and immobility issues. She enjoyed an occasional Chinese takeout or a McDonald's cheeseburger. She also enjoyed talking on her cell phone, playing games on her phone, and was active on Facebook.
