Obituary

Todd Lane Hallstrom, passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2024, at his home in Aitkin, Minnesota.  He was 64 years old.

Todd was the third child born to Torry and Carol (Hillman) Hallstrom in Mora, Minnesota on April 7, 1960.

He attended school in Mora and graduated from Mora High School in 1978.

After graduating, he attended the University of Minnesota where he had been recruited to play football for the Minnesota Gophers.  He was red-shirted his first year, so Todd spent five seasons playing for the Gophers.  He was first drafted by the New Jersey Generals but was advised by his agent to wait for the NFL draft.  In 1983 he was drafted by the Washington Redskins to play on the offensive line.  While there he developed a staph infection in his leg and was cut by the team on the last cut.  The New Jersey Generals still had his rights, so he went to Florida for their training camp.  Todd had broken his ankle during the Ohio State game while playing for the Gophers.  The Generals sent all players with previously broken bones home.  Todd came back to Minnesota and was picked up by the Vikings, he again made it to the final cut before being let go from the team.  After this he decided to "hang up his cleats."

Todd's working career consisted of sales for different organizations until he was put on disability due to his back and other football injuries.

In 2023 he moved to Aitkin, Minnesota to help take care of his mother.  After she passed, Todd decided to stay in Aitkin.

Todd had many friends from high school and those he played football with while in college.  Those relationships were very important to him and brought him much happiness.

Todd is preceded in death by his parents Torry and Carol (Hillman) Hallstrom, his sister Valerie (Hallstrom) Caple, and his Godfather John Hillman.

He is survived by his sister Gayle (Jack) Gilbertson of Aitkin, brother Troy (Jenny) Hallstrom of Arizona, Godmother Beatta Hillman of Mora, nieces, and nephews; Russ Gilbertson, Randi (Joe) Lind, Jeff (Holly) Caple, Holly Caple, Seth Hallstrom, and Cole Hallstrom as well as a few aunts, many cousins, and friends.
