Obituary

Tom Whiteford, 74, of Mora, MN, passed away on July 17, 2023. He was born on April 6, 1949, in Minneapolis, MN, to Robert and Dorothy Whiteford. Tom was well known for his witty comments, one-liners, and classic "Dad jokes." His sense of humor brightened the lives of those around him, leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met.

Tom's journey began in Minneapolis, where he graduated from De La Salle High School in 1969. He then pursued a degree in Civil Engineering through the Air Force Academy and furthered his education at Pine Tech Community College, earning a Welding Degree. During his time in the Vietnam War, Tom met the love of his life, Lorraine, through heartfelt letters exchanged between them. They married on May 22, 1971, in Minneapolis, MN, and embarked on a beautiful journey together.

In 1974, Tom and Lorraine moved to Mora, MN, where they raised their six children. Tom dedicated 22 years of his life to the United States Air Force, serving his country with pride. After retiring as a welder from Cummings Manufacture, Tom enjoyed his time fishing, deer hunting, and indulging in Lorraine's delicious cookies. However, his greatest joy came from spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandson, who affectionately called him "Bubba." Tom's quick wit and warm presence will be deeply missed by all, but his legacy will live on through the cherished memories shared by his loved ones.

Tom held many titles throughout his life, from being a Veteran, a husband to being an uncle and friend. However, his favorite role was being a father. He loved nothing more than being there for his adult children and creating lasting bonds with each of them. Some of those memories include lots of pranks and unlimited "fork waving" at the dinner table. This meant he was about to drop some knowledge on you, or you were in trouble.

Tom is survived by his beloved wife, Lorraine Whiteford, and their children: Lisa Lunde (Rich), Tad Whiteford (Katie), Kari Frahm (Jeremy), Lori McIlory (Todd), Rob Whiteford (Jamie), and Amy Whiteford. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Andrew, Kamdyn, Logan, Tatum, Mikah, Talon, William, Quinn, Tegan, Noah, Callie, Finley, and great-grandson, Braxton. Siblings Richard Whiteford (Marcia), Jerry Whiteford and Kate Whiteford (Rita Fox). Very special Godchildren, Maureen Connor & Nathan Whiteford.

Tom is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Dorothy Whiteford, and his sister, Patricia Connor.

A ceremony to honor Tom's life will be held at the Dresser Methven Funeral Home in Mora, MN with Pastor Kate Mensing officiating. Visitation will take place from 10 to 11 AM, followed by a service at 11 AM. Tom will be laid to rest at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Military Honors will be provided by the Mora American Legion Post #201 and the Air Force Honor Guard, and a lunch reception will follow.

Tom Whiteford will forever be remembered for his infectious laughter, kind heart, and unwavering love for his family. He touched the lives of many and will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Too-da-loo-a-loo, Bubba!
