Steven P Rud, (84), beloved husband, father, brother & friend, passed away Monday, August 14 after a sudden onset of terminal lung cancer. A service celebrating Steve will be held on Saturday, September 16th at 2:30 at Methven Funeral Home in Isle, MN. Visitation will take place 1 hour prior to the service. A luncheon at the Wahkon Inn will follow the service. Steve's ashes are to be buried at Fort Snelling Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN at a later date.
Steve was born 6/10/1939 to Virgina (Schroeder) Rud and Philip Rud in Paynesville, MN. He was the eldest of 2 boys.
Steve graduated from Paynesville High School in 1957. Shortly after graduation, and after just 2 months of dating, Steve married the love of his life, Bridget (Sexton) Rud of Mpls, MN. He proudly served in the US Air Force where he received training as an aircraft electronic navigation equipment specialist. Steve & his young bride were stationed at Keesler AFB in Biloxi, Mississippi and Castle AFB near Merced, California.
Upon leaving the Air Force, Steve & Bridget, now blessed with two sons, returned to Minnesota. In his early civilian career, Steve owned and operated a TV shop in Eden Valley, MN. Eventually his growing family moved to Columbia Heights where they lived for over 30 years. Steve concluded his career as the Foreman of the Electronics department for the Minneapolis Public School Systems.
Steve liked to camp & fish, taking his young family to campgrounds all around the state as well as several across the country.
He was known as a hands-on individual who loved to tinker. One of his favorite projects was the purchase and restoration of a converted Grey Hound Bus they used for camping.
Some of Steve's favorite times were created in Wahkon with his beloved Bridget, first at their cabin and then at their retirement home up on the edges of Mille Lacs Lake.
Bridget & Steve were married for over 65 years. During these years they raised 4 children and enjoyed the pleasure of their 9 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Virginia & Philip Rud.
He is survived by his wife, Bridget, Onamia Memory Care Facility; his 4 sons: Ron (Patti) Rud, St Paul; Jeff (Giovanna) Rud; Light House Point, FL; Tom (Linda) Rud, Blaine; Jim (Marie) Rud, Andover.
