Stephen Daniel
Koland
Mar 29, 1947 — Sep 3, 2025
Sandstone
It is with sadness in our hearts that we announce the passing of Stephen Daniel Koland, who left us on September 3, 2025, at the Sandstone Health Care Center. Steve was 78 years young and lived a life filled with love and laughter in Sandstone, MN.
Born on March 29, 1947, in Minneapolis, MN, to Arne and Ellen (Reynolds) Koland, Steve was a proud Navy veteran who served during the Vietnam War right after graduating high school. Steve married Sandra when he returned from his tour. He was a true jack of all trades, working as a laborer and always lending a hand whenever needed.
Steve cherished his time spent watching Vikings games with friends and family, and he loved enjoying those moments with his grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. A collector of western movies and an avid coffee drinker, you could usually find him sharing stories and laughter over a cup of joe with friends.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Arne and Ellen; sister, Janice; nephew, Brian; sister-in-law, Jane; and brother-in-law, Dave Kersey.
Steve is survived by his wife, Sandra; daughters, Penny (Tim) Lease, Deborah (Warren) Hammer, and Sarah Rinken; son, Joshua Bacon; as well as his cherished grandchildren, Dune Alloway, Oteila (Tillie) McCrudden, and Nels Hammer. He also leaves behind his brother Gerry; and many nephews and nieces, including, Brad (Lisa) Koland, Scott (Heidi) Koland, Jon (Kris), Jim, and great nephews Tyler, Sam, Kai, and great nieces Shana, Emma, and Olivia. A heartfelt thank you goes out to nephew, Bill Kersey, for his unwavering support during this difficult time.
A time of sharing will be held at 1pm on Friday, September 12, 2025, at the Methven Funeral Home Chapel, with military honors following outside the funeral home. Visitation will be held from 12pm to 1pm. Steve's family welcomes all who knew and loved him to join us in honoring a remarkable man who touched so many lives.
