Shirley Ann Carroll, beloved sister, friend, and member of the Sandstone community, passed away on October 19, 2023, at the age of 86. She was born on September 23, 1937, in Cambridge, Minnesota to her loving parents.
Shirley grew up in the Bruno area on her family farm, where she shared beautiful childhood memories with her 17 siblings. She attended Askov High School and graduated in 1956.
In her life, Shirley found joy in many simple pleasures. She cherished the time spent at her cabin in Ear Falls, Canada. There, she would often fish and find solace surrounded by nature's beauty.
In marriage, Shirley found her soulmate in Richard Carroll, whom she met through her friend Sue's brother. Together, they built a life filled with love and companionship. Sadly, Richard preceded her in death.
Shirley was a dedicated employee, working for Luoma Egg Ranch for 42 years. She was a member of the Sandstone Bowling League, being sponsored by the egg ranch throughout her bowling career. Shirley had great enthusiasm for the Luoma Egg Ranch team, her bowling talent brought joy and camaraderie to her fellow teammates.
She possessed a green thumb and took great pride in her flower gardens, adorning her home with vibrant blooms throughout the seasons. Additionally, Shirley had a fondness for cats, and her two feline companions held a special place in her heart.
She is preceded in death by her parents Floyd and Floretta (Day) Thompson, her husband Richard, and her siblings; Eldon, Clifton, Juanita, Richard, Arnold, Dorothy, Jerry, Vera, Milton, and Norma.
Shirley will be deeply missed by her sister Annie Bacon, who shared a strong bond with her throughout their lives. She is also survived by her remaining siblings: Margie Laavey, Dale Thompson, Jennie Anderson, Linda Karlson, Wayne Thompson, and Bill Thompson and her best friend Dan Korhonen. Shirley's memory will be cherished by her numerous nieces, nephews, and a wide circle of friends who were touched by her warm and caring nature.
The visitation to honor Shirley's life will be held on October 26, 2023, at 1:00 pm, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 pm. Both services will take place at Methven Funeral and Cremation Services in Sandstone, Minnesota
In remembrance of Shirley in place of flowers, donations may be made to St. Croix Hospice-North Branch, Sandstone Fire and Rescue, Vilstad Church, Sandstone Health Care Center, or any personal charity of your choice, as these were causes close to her heart.
Shirley Ann Carroll's legacy of love, warmth, and resilience will forever remain in our hearts. May she find eternal peace in the embrace of her departed loved ones.
