Shannon Wynne Thomas, resident of Sandstone, Minnesota, unexpectedly passed away on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at Essentia Health Care, at the age of 55.

Shannon was born in Sandstone, Minnesota on June 2, 1967, to Sylvester and Dora (Benjamin) Thomas. He grew up in the Sandstone/Askov area and attended school in Askov. He had his first child, Tyler Thomas, at the age of 22 in 1989, that same year, he was married to Rebecca (Furey) Thomas on October 21, 1989, at Robinson Park in Sandstone, Minnesota. In 2006, he and Rebecca bought a new home that he would continue to reside in. Shannon worked in construction at a young age, he then worked in the maintenance field for the majority of his adult life. Him and Rebecca had 5 children together and although they had a complicated relationship, Shannon still loved her, even long after they were divorced. He was an active member of the Sandstone Bowling League for many years. He loved spending his days perfecting his bowling skills, he even managed to set a couple of league records.

He had many hobbies and activities he would fill his day with. He loved being outdoors, whether it be hunting in his deer stand way in the backyard, fishing at his favorite fishing spot, working on his garden, getting his hands dirty tuning up his outdoor equipment, or grilling up a barbeque. Of course, he had other leisurely activities, such as bowling, conjuring up his next delicious meal in the kitchen, relaxing in his chair, playing video games or watching television. He particularly loved the Marvel franchise; his favorite hero was always Iron Man. Shannon always said he was Iron Man and in many ways he was the Iron Man in our lives.

He was an intelligent, hardworking, strong, honest, delightful man. He had a huge sense of pride but was willing to admit when he was wrong and humble himself. He was always able to strike up a conversation with anyone and give them a good laugh, even during difficult times. He wouldn't always express it, but, just like Iron Man, under his tough shell he was a kind-hearted, gentle, loving individual. He gave firm discipline, the best advice, and a sense of comfort and safety to his children. When he made a connection with someone, he became an incredibly selfless person. He was the guy you could go to for a quick chat, a piece of advice, or just a good laugh.

Shannon was an outgoing, lovable person. His humor and jokes always lit up the room and he always looked on the bright side. He was able to truly express himself and said whatever was on his mind. He loved, protected, and cherished his family and was willing to do or give anything for them. He was a man you would want to know, with many great stories he loved to share. He loved conversing with friends and family, it seemed as though he always had something to talk about, he enjoyed being a part of people's lives. He was a wondrous man, and he will be missed greatly.

Shannon is preceded in death by his parents, Sylvester and Dora (Otis) Thomas.

He is survived by his children: Tyler (Nina) Thomas, Zacharia (Zac) Thomas, Andrew (Hoss) Thomas, Katara (Finn) Thomas, and Skyler Thomas; 5 grandchildren; siblings: Sylvester (Donna) Thomas, Winona (Scott) Evens, Marty Thomas, Cherie Ambrose, Karen (Jim) Moe; nieces and nephews, extended family, and many friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Shannon from 12 pm to 2 pm on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at the Methven Funeral Home in Sandstone, Minnesota.
