Obituary

Scott Emmett Kuykendall Sr., a devoted son, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on January 26, 2025, at the age of 75. Born on October 21, 1949, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Scott spent his childhood on Cleveland Street in Northeast Minneapolis before graduating from Edison High School in 1967 after attending Minnehaha Academy.

Scott proudly served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force, where he was a part of the Security Forces and had the honor of working with NATO at Soesterberg AFB and in the Netherlands. After his military service, he went on to enjoy a fulfilling 30-year career with Unisys Corporation, working in various cities including Roseville, Minnesota, Detroit, Michigan, and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

A man of deep faith, Scott was also a Hospice/Hospital Chaplain and Spiritual Director. He dedicated his life to helping others, especially those living on the margins of society. His work with hospice patients was incredibly important to him, and he cherished the moments spent guiding individuals on their spiritual journeys. Known for his kindness and compassion, Scott often accompanied souls in their final moments, bringing comfort and understanding to their transitions to eternity. He found inspiration in the works of Henri Nouwen and Thomas Merton, and welcomed people of all faiths to connect with "the still small voice inside us."

Scott is preceded in death by his loving parents, Emmett and Jane Kuykendall. He is survived by his son, Scott Kuykendall II (Lacy) of Ramsey, MN, his daughter, Lisa Kneiszler of Milton, FL, his sister, Pamela Hamlow of Nashville, TN, six grandchildren – David, Jason, Daniel, Justin, Jordi, and Jack – as well as seven great-grandchildren, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and many special friends.

Following a private cremation at Methven Funeral Home in Sandstone, Minnesota, Scott's ashes will be scattered at Rolling Acres in Platte County, Missouri. Friends and family will gather for a celebration of life at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, January 31, 2025 at Faith Lutheran Church in Isle, Minnesota with Reverend Doctor Josh Blair officiating.  Visitation will be from 10-11 A.M. at the church.

Scott will be dearly missed for his quiet strength, unwavering faith, and the countless lives he touched throughout his life.
