Rosa (Rose) Maria Mostek (nee Cura), 91, was born in Navalcarnero, Spain (near Madrid) on November 5, 1929. She was the youngest of four children: two daughters and two sons of Leon Ramon Cura Pajares and Maria Luisa (nee Araujo Soler). Rose passed peacefully on August 31, 2021 in Duluth, MN. Her sons Carlos and Tony and grandson David were with her holding her hands as her soul passed quietly into the loving arms of Our Lord on Tuesday morning.
Rose was the beloved wife of the late Antonin (Tony) Mostek (2013), loving mother of Tony (Susan), Jim (Nancy), Carlos (Nancy), Rose (Dave) McEvoy, Juan (Clare), Frank (Heidi) and the proud grandmother (who called her "Lala") to 18 and great-grandmother to 26.
Rose attended grade school in Madrid, and her family suffered through the Spanish Civil War from 1936-39. Rose met her husband Tony while vacationing with her family in a mountainous resort in Arenas de San Pedro, they married on November 22, 1952 in Madrid. The following year they immigrated to the US and settled in Racine, WI. In 1957, the family moved to a Bridgeport apartment in Chicago. In 1965 they bought a home on the Southwest side in St. Bede's Parish on 83 rd Street.
Rose was a devoted wife and Mother and raised 6 children in a small house on the southwest side of Chicago. She was a faithful Catholic and she enjoyed cooking Spanish and Czech food. Rose and Tony entertained well and knew how to throw traditional ethnic parties, celebrating our Czech and Spanish heritage. Rose was a talented seamstress and she held side jobs which helped the family financially. Rose taught her children how to speak and write in Spanish, all 6 of her children are fluent in Spanish.
Visitation from 6:30-8pm on Thursday, September 9 at Curley Funeral Home located at 6116 111th St, Chicago Ridge, IL 60415.
The Funeral Mass will be held at St Bede the Venerable Church (8200 S Kostner Ave. Chicago, IL 60652) on Friday September 10, 2021 at 10am.
