Ronald Michael Schmidt, age 88, of Mora, Minnesota, passed away on October 16, 2026.

Ron (Doc) is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Dottie; his daughters, Jennifer Ernest (Dave) of Mora, Minnesota, and Tracy Johnson (Dave) of Newport News, Virginia; and his sons, Jeffery Schmidt of Villafranca del Bierzo, Spain; Michael Hayes of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina; and Thomas Hayes (Karen) of Richmond, Virginia. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Ron is further survived by his sisters, Sandra Doody of Niles, Illinois, and Mary Kerpe (Rom) of Duluth, Minnesota; and his brother, Jim (Happy) of Northbrook, Illinois.

Ron was born March 2, 1938 in Evanston, Illinois. He is preceded in death by parents Louise and Anthony Schmidt.

Ron graduated from the University of Illinois School of Medicine in 1963. He served as a member of the US Navy Medical Corp during the Vietnam era.

He practiced primary care Pediatrics in Illinois, South Carolina and Alabama over a period of 39 years.

After retiring in 2002, he lived in Newnan, Georgia until moving to Minnesota in 2021.

Ron's hobbies before and after retirement were playing golf and bridge and was an avid reader.

He was active in youth ministry as well as the Knights of Columbus and St. Vincent DePaul Society.
