Obituary

Roland Philip Berg, age 82, of Isle, Minnesota passed away on Monday, August 1, 2022 at the Mille Lacs Health Care Center in Onamia, Minnesota.

Roland Berg was born March 29, 1940 in Minneapolis, Minnesota where he spent his earliest years with his parents Andrew and Astrid in a house south of E. Lake St. As a young child they moved to a farm outside of Mora and then later to the farm on Hwy 47 with sister Linda and brother David, a few miles south of Ogilvie.

He attended school in Ogilvie, and married Marlene (Dee) Harris of Ogilvie in 1960. They lived in an apartment above the bank in Ogilvie while he attended Saint cloud state, majoring in mathematics, and Dee worked in the bank. After graduation they moved to the Twin Cities with their young sons Mike and Dan, where he started his career in computers. From his beginnings as a programmer to systems analyst, he was part of the new exploring industry from the 1960s to the 2000s.

He was a voracious reader, loved westerns and mysteries. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and became an avid archer. The 70s were spent immersed in archery leagues and tournaments, involving the whole family. Many family vacations were spent traveling and camping for archery tournaments.

In his 60s, he and wife Dee retired to Isle, where they lived until the Lord called him home August 1, 2022. They had spent many good years living by Mille Lacs Lake. That is where family and friends gathered every summer for Isle days, holidays, and many other occasions. They were able to travel and thoroughly enjoyed a well-deserved retirement.

His devotion to family, his principles and character, embodied the best traits in a man, and he lives on in the minds and hearts of everyone who knew him.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2022, at 2:00PM at Faith Lutheran Church in Isle, Minnesota. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place at Graceland Cemetery in Ogilvie, Minnesota at a later date.

Roland is survived by his spouse, Dee of 62 years, his brother, David (Dianne), sons Mike (Gloria) and Danny (Jill), grandchildren, Derek, Krystyna, Lizzy, and Evelyn, and great Grand-daughter Cecelia, and many nephews, nieces, and extended family.

He is preceded in death by his parents Andrew and Astrid Berg, sister Linda, and grandson Jared.
