Roger LeRoy Volk of Sandstone, MN passed away on Friday, January 30, 2026, at his home. He was 79 years old.

On July 11, 1946, Roger was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana to LeRoy and Dorothy (Peterson) Volk. Roger graduated from Sandstone High School in 1964. After high school, Roger enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served his country until June of 1970. While enlisted, Roger was stationed aboard the USS Constellation and USS Hornet during the Vietnam war. In July of 1966 Roger married Mae Sadlowsky. After being honorably discharged from the military, Roger started working for Shafer Construction. He retired from the company after 36 years in June of 2006. Roger believed in being part of the community and served as a council member on the Sandstone township board for 34 years, from 1983 to 2017. He was also a council member at Grace Lutheran Church in Sandstone. Roger was known as a hard worker, but most importantly he was a great dad and husband. He loved to take his family on road trips across the US, along with canoeing and camping trips. Roger had a calm demeanor, was gentle, kind, helpful, knowledgeable, caring, responsible, and generous. It wasn't often that you didn't see him with a twinkle in his eye and a smile on his face.

Roger is preceded in death by his parents, LeRoy and Dorothy (Peterson); brothers Thomas, Jerry (Linda); uncles, Lloyd, Harley, Harvey, Wallace; aunts, Joyce, Doris, Darlene, Diane.

Roger is survived by his loving wife of almost 60 years, Mae; daughter, Robin; son, Dean (Diane); brother, Dennis (Linda); sister-in-law, Ruth Sadlowsky; aunts, Delores (Gary), Jean; cousins, nephews, nieces, grand nephews, and grandnieces.

At this time there are no services being planned for Roger.
