Obituary

Robert (Bob) Sabolik, of Mora, passed away on Monday, Sept. 23, 2024, at the age of 88.

Bob was born July 11, 1936, in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, to Michael and Anna (Monegas) Sabolik.  He was raised in a loving Catholic home with two older sisters.

Upon graduating from high school, he briefly moved to Florida where he worked construction and had many adventures.  At that time, there was a junior college coach in the small town of El Dorado, Kansas, who would often recruit players from Pa. and offer them scholarships to play football. Bob was one of those.  Bob and several others arrived from the big city life in Pa. to small town America where he fell in love with both the surroundings and a Kansas girl by the name of Jacque Wentling.  They were married Oct. 3, 1964, and enjoyed 60 years together.

Bob and Jacque began their married life in Detroit, Michigan, where Bob was employed at Beneficial Finance Co.  He was soon hired by Manufacturers National Bank of Detroit and began his banking career.  Bob and Jacque's happiest and proudest moment happened in 1973 when they were blessed with the arrival of their daughter, Erica Leigh (Sabolik) Zimmermann.

In 1974, Bob was asked if he would return to Wichita to help open a new commercial bank. He gladly agreed to leave the big city life and return to the heart of the country where his wife's family resided.  Bob was instrumental in the opening of Chisholm Trail State Bank in 1975 where he held many positions: vice president and cashier, Secretary of the Board of Directors, Commercial Loan Officer, Sr. Vice President, treasurer of Chisholm Trail Financial Corp. and President.  He was a graduate of many financial schools and was considered an expert in the financing of commerce and industry.  His gentle, yet professional manner was admired by many.  He retired from CTSB in 2007 after 42 years in banking.

Bob and Jacque moved to Mora in 2013 to be closer to their daughter and grandsons.  He enjoyed his life and loved his family very much.  Their happiness was always his first priority.

He loved all sports and after retirement, played golf frequently.  As a family, they loved to vacation in Colorado for the mountains and Florida for the beaches.  He was a dedicated gym rat and continued working out with his buddies until well into his 70's.  Bob served as a school board member and past president for Circle USD #375 from 1987-1991 in Towanda, Ks. where his daughter attended school. He also served his country in the US Army Reserves and was honorably discharged in 1966.

Bob was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather (Papa). He will be forever in our hearts.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, brothers-in-law, and son-in-law, Brian Zimmermann.

He is survived by his wife, Jacque of Mora; daughter, Erica Zimmermann; grandsons, Logan (Brittany) and Riley; great granddaughter Wrenley, all of Sandstone; sister, Betty Lucot; sister, Evelyn Dansak, both of Pennsylvania; sisters-in-law, Faralane Chase, Eleanor (Don) Walburn, Josie Cusick, all of Kansas; many nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, October 5, 2024 at Dresser-Methven Funeral Home in Mora with Rev. Anthony Cloose officiating.  Visitation will be from 1 until 2 P.M. at the funeral home.
