Robert John Carlson (Bob) of Finlayson, Minnesota passed away on November 2, 2024. He was born December 27, 1939 and retired from serving his country for 23 years in the USAF and Minnesota Air National Guard. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary, their children Scott, John (Heidi), Timothy, Daniel, and Christine (Barbara). He has 3 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Elaine, Susan, and Nancy.
Bob went to Harding High School in St. Paul before joining the United States Air Force at age 17. Bob served his country on active duty and in the Air National Guard, retiring as a Master Sergent.
Bob was married on January 13, 1961 to his devoted and loving wife Mary.
Bob had many jobs throughout his life to raise his family and serve his community. He was an aircraft sheet metal mechanic, auto mechanic, milk truck driver, and taxi driver. He served his community as a volunteer Fireman, Police Reserve Officer, and City Council Member. Bob was a Real Estate agent, truck driver, and school bus driver. He later stated that driving a school bus was one of the best jobs he ever had. He jokingly asked students how to spell his name backwards - BoB
Bob proudly participated in parades and Minnesota DFL activities. Bob was always ready to help. He lent his knowledgeable skills in helping his kids build a garage, a barn, various home remodeling projects, fix their cars and boats, and many more things requiring his diverse skills.
Bob will be interned at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery with Military Honors on December 4, at 11:00am with a remembrance luncheon to follow at the Veterans Memorial Community Center in Inver Grove Heights, MN.
