Richard Arnold Hessler of Sandstone, MN, peacefully passed away at the age of 76 on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at Essentia-St. Mary's Campus in Duluth, MN.

Born in St. Paul and raised in Cloverton, Minnesota, Rich, as we fondly called him, proudly served in the US Army from 1968 to 1970, where he earned several medals including the Good Conduct Medal and National Defense Service Medal for his exemplary service.

On June 27, 1970, he married the love of his life, Cynthia, in a beautiful ceremony in St. Paul, Minnesota. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.

Rich had a strong passion for the outdoors, enjoying activities like hunting, 4-wheeling, and lumberjacking. His love for the Old West, cowboys, and horses was unparalleled. Always up for a road trip, he would often hit the open road in his van, exploring different parts of the country, with his signature phrase, "Be Careful."

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, John and Louise, as well as his siblings; Wayne, Kenneth, Roger, Ronald, Marcella "Marcie" Zeuli, and Marlene Peterson.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Cynthia, his sons Wayne, James, Raymond, Steve, David, Thomas, and bonus son Travis. Rich also leaves behind his siblings Caroline (Terry) Schwartz, and Karon (Johnny) Mishler, along with numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss him dearly.

A visitation will be held for Richard on Friday, May 31, 2024, from 6 pm to 8 pm at the Methven Funeral Home chapel, with military honors at 6:30 pm. Burial will take place at the Cloverton Cemetery at a later date.
