Obituary

With great honor and love, we say farewell for now to our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. Heaven has gained a good and lucky leprechaun who will be deeply missed here on earth.

Paul Dennis Maloney (Bunka), age 84, of Askov, MN, was reunited with his beloved wife, Carole, and his heavenly family on September 1, 2026. After a sudden and unexplained illness, Paul passed peacefully into grace, surrounded by his family.

Paul was born on May 27, 1942, in St. Paul, to John and Eleanor Maloney. The youngest of three siblings, he often reminisced about growing up on Ohio Street in the house on the bluff. It was there that he met childhood friends and made memories that would last a lifetime.

Paul graduated from Humboldt High School in 1960 and spent a brief time in the United States Navy. He later began working at 3M as a computer operator, where he met the love of his life, Carole. They married on August 1, 1964, and together raised four children.

Paul and Carole spent many years raising their family in Eagan before having the opportunity to live in San Diego for a few years. They eventually settled in Askov, a community they both loved and were proud to call home. Their lake home became a place to welcome family and friends, and Paul was always happy to show off whichever classic car happened to be occupying his garage on Main Street.

After retirement, Paul and Carole were fortunate to spend many years splitting their time between Askov and Oro Valley, Arizona, enjoying the weather, scenery, and sunshine of both places. In later years, Paul devoted himself to caring for Carole as her primary caregiver.

Above all else, Paul loved his family—including his beloved Freckles. He also loved his ever-rotating collection of classic cars, golfing, visiting with friends in anyone's garage, and simply finding a good spot to sit in the sunshine.

Paul remained active in the Askov community until the end and was a longtime member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. His family and friends will remember his stories, his friendship, his love for the people around him, and the simple things that brought him happiness.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, John and Eleanor; his beloved wife, Carole; and his sister, Joyce.

He is survived by his brother, Tom; his four children, Jennifer (Mike), Mark (Yvette), Melissa, and Patrick (Hollie); his grandchildren, Brady, Jessica, Chloe, Kenny, Kayleigh, Sofia, Murphy, Sawyer; great-grandchildren, Destiny, Molly, Harper, Emma, Eleanor, Lana; a dear companion and friend, Marilyn; and many nieces and nephews.

Please join Paul's family in celebrating his life and saying goodbye on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Askov, Minnesota. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., with the funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place immediately afterward at Bethlehem Lutheran Church Cemetery, followed by a luncheon back at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church General Fund.
