Paul John (Hoss) Cabak passed away October 26, 2024, at Essentia St Mary's in Duluth.  He died at the age of 68 from complications of Congestive Heart Failure.

Paul was born on January 15, 1956, to Don and Lucille Cabak of Hinckley. His first job was at his dad's gas station, Don's North Star. There he met his future wife, Deanna Maser, who worked at the family-owned Dairy Queen next door.

Paul and Deanna were married April 5, 1975.  They were blessed with two sons, Matthew Paul and John Michael.  Together they made their home in Hinckley in the house that Paul designed and built with help from friends and family. He went on to build two cabins at his land, and commercial properties in Hinckley.

Throughout his life, Paul worked various jobs: water well drilling, construction, real estate, baking, and finally as a school bus driver for Hinckley-Finlayson for over 15 years.  He often commented that he watched as kids got on as preschoolers and off as graduates. Many will remember his ice cream and bakery business, Hoss's Dairy Bar, that he ran in the 1990's.

Paul enjoyed several hobbies when his health permitted.  This included woodworking, hunting, photography and lately diamond art painting. He completed over 1oo pictures which are framed and hung in what we call his "gallery".

He had a lifelong love of nature, wildlife and animals of all kinds, especially his rescued cats. Particularly important to him was his land by the Grindstone River and the family farm owned by his uncle Johnny and later his brother Danny.  When possible, he loved four-wheeling around the neighborhood, stopping to chat with his friends along the way. He was a farmer at heart and could spend hours watching the seasonal activities of planting and harvesting.

Paul was proceeded in death by his grandparents, his mother and father, his brother Steve, baby sister Karen, and great-nephew Mason Bork.

He is lovingly survived his wife Deanna of 49 years, and his sole caretaker for the past 8 years, his two sons Matt and John, his daughter-in-law Julie and two very special granddaughters, Amelia and Elisabeth.  He is also survived by his siblings: Danny (Bonnie) Cabak, Kurt (Cheri) Cabak, Donna (Rob) Sahlen, Bart (Cheryl) Cabak and Ted (Denise) Cabak along with nieces, nephews and wonderful friends.

Blessed be the memory of a humble, honest, and loving man.  Rest in peace free from pain and suffering.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Paul from 4pm to 7pm on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at the Methven Funeral Home chapel in Sandstone, MN.
