Mona Faye (Maxwell) Knapp, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at Essentia Hospital in Sandstone, MN. She was 84 years old. Mona will be remembered for her vibrant spirit and kind heart.

Mona was born on September 12, 1939, in Askov, MN, to the late Albert and Minnie (Sperry) Thomsen. She grew up in a very busy household alongside her four sisters and six brothers. Mona graduated from Askov High School pursuing a higher education, she attended and graduated from Anoka Vo Tech, where she became a skilled medical transcriptionist.

Throughout her life, Mona found joy in various hobbies and interests. She had an extensive collection of beautiful and unique dolls, which she cherished dearly. Mona took great pride in maintaining a spotless and organized home, always ensuring that everything was in its rightful place. She loved going out to eat, dancing whenever the opportunity came up, and spending quality time with her beloved husband, Gerald Knapp, whom she married 23 years ago.

An active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Mona found solace and strength in her faith. She formed lasting friendships within the church community. She treasured every moment spent singing and playing cards with her friends.

Mona is survived by her loving children, Diana (Neal) Gay of Pine City, MN, James Maxwell of Tamarack, MN, Deb (Lee Johnson) Maxwell of Isanti, MN, Joe (Julie) Maxwell of Melrose, MN, along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought immense joy to her life. Mona joins her parents, Albert and Minnie, her first husband, James Maxwell, her granddaughter, Jessica, three sisters, and five brothers, who have all preceded her in death. Though our hearts ache with the loss of such a remarkable woman, we find comfort in knowing that Mona has found eternal peace in the arms of her loved ones who have gone before her.
