It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Michael Joseph Balfanz, age 67, of Hinckley, MN. Michael was born on April 3, 1958, in Saint Paul, MN, and he departed this life on April 25, 2025.

Michael lived a life filled with love, laughter, and outdoor adventures. He earned his AA Degree and went on to have a successful career as a Sheet Metal Engineer in the fabrication industry. His passion for life was evident in everything he did, from his work to his hobbies. An NRA Life member and a Special Class Ham Radio Operator (NOKQI), Michael was always ready to connect with others and share his interests.

On May 18, 1996, Michael married the love of his life, Sherrie, at Trinity Lutheran Church in North Branch, MN. Together, they crafted a beautiful life, often spending cherished moments at their cabin up north. Michael loved the great outdoors—hunting, fishing, camping, and gardening were his heartbeats. He loved to talk to his friends about hunting and fishing.  He was not shy about giving criticism. His family and friends knew he had no filter and was as honest as the day is long, they all loved and respected him for that.

He is preceded in death by his father Bill Balfanz, uncle Roger Trapp, aunts, Lois Balfanz, Marilyn Griffith, and Mae DeNucci, and cousins, Patty Haselden and Linda Wright.

Michael is survived by his wonderful spouse Sherrie, his mother Patricia Balfanz, step-son William S Anderson, sister Karen (Jeff) Janus, brother Steve Balfanz, aunt Ruby Trapp and uncle Edward Balfanz, and a circle of friends and family who will miss him dearly.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, May 16, 2025, at 3:00PM at the Methven Funeral Home in Sandstone, Minnesota.  There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service.
