Obituary

Maynerd Harold Monson, age 98, formerly of Markville, MN passed away on December 22, 2021 at Elderwood Assisted Living in Hinckley, MN.

Maynerd Harold Monson was born the tenth child of Mons and Nella (Kasberg) Monson on May 1, 1923 in Arna Township, Minnesota, on the family farm.  His siblings were Johanna (Al) Mostad, Olga, Chester, Edwin, Nobel, Erling, Carl, Magnus and Melvin.  He attended school in Wyoming, Markville and graduated from High School at Cloverton, MN.  He married Marie (Grace) in a double wedding with his brother, Melvin and bride, Lillian (Breezely) on December 1, 1944 at the Markville Presbyterian Church.    He worked the family farm for a few years then moved his family to Markville where they purchased the former Howard Garage and Lunchroom. He worked several jobs throughout his life including, mechanic in his garage, boilerman on the ore boats out of Duluth, MN, county snowplow driver, janitor and boilerman at Markville School, bus driver for Cloverton and Sandstone Schools, and at Hopkins Sand, Gravel and Ready Mix as a mechanic for the trucks and machinery.  He often created tools for special jobs he was working on.  He loved working all his jobs and it was his pleasure do anything for others.

In 2008 Maynerd moved to Elderwood Assisted Living and was content and found enjoyment in the music presented by people and groups that came to minister to the residents.  He lived there until he met Jesus on December 22, 2021.  The last two months of his life, Ecumen Hospice staff added another layer of comfort, encouragement and support to him and his family.

Maynerd and Marie were active in the Markville Presbyterian Church.  They raised their children to enjoy time with family, singing and playing instruments, cherishing friendships, encouraged outdoor activities all year long, but most of all they were examples of the fruits on the Spirit:  Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, all his siblings, son Tim, and granddaughter Melissa.

He is survived by sons Harold (Judy) Clare (Marcia), Ken (Joanne), Kevin (Veronica), daughter Avis (Pete) Williams, and daughter-in-law Mary.  Grandchildren Jason (Sarah), Marhea (Jimmy) Harris, Rick (Jessica), Mavis Vargas, Stuart (Dorothy), Josh (Denise), Tiffany, Matt, Rosie (Nelson) Chalco, Stephanie (Trenton) Lunstrom, Lindsey (Bobby) Crawford, Megan (Luis) Munoz, Caleb, Sarah Jo (Graham) Hensel, Chad (Sally), Isaac (St Claire}, Debra (Andy) Shortman, and Lisa (Jack) Fletcher.  Great-children Emily, Gretta, Seth, Ruby, Levi, Josiah, Micha, Annika, Maisie, Zephaniah, Cora, Nella, Nehemiah, Johanna, Rosa, Micaiah, Lucia, Alessandra, Austin, Lucas, Laia, Cooper, Jack, Tyler, Stellan, Merritt, Gaviel, Lorelai, Tucker, Aaliyah, Chase, Timothy, Easton, and Tanner.
