Maurice 'Corky' Sundsvold passed away on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at his home with family by his side. He was 79 years old.
Corky was born on August 31,1946 in Mora at the Kanabec Hospital. Corky graduated from Ogilvie High school in 1964, he was united in Marriage to Kathleen Olson on September 10th, 1966. They lived in the Knife Lake area and together, with his in laws, owned Bud and Corky's. After that burned down, he built Corky's on Knife Lake which is now known as Northwoods Steakhouse. He loved to cook and enjoyed all the friends he made throughout his life. He took pride in the upkeep of Knife Lake and was instrumental in the removal of the carp and keeping the weeds down. He always made sure the roads were plowed in the winter out to the fish houses. He even named himself the Mayor of Knife Lake.
Corky loved to travel, and they took numerous flying and driving trips throughout the US and Canada. Deer hunting was also a favorite time especially deer camp and he was always the camp cook. He loved to watch football and unfortunately his favorite team was the Green Bay Packers. Corky was very proud of his children and grandchildren. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy; son, Todd; daughter, Krista (Jim Eye); Jerry Brown; like a son, his five grandchildren, Michael, Christopher (Miranda), Travis, Taylor, Rachael (Matthew) and three great grandchildren, Aubrey, Cash, and Aspen; his siblings, Mary (Larry) Odell, Paul (Deb) Sundsvold.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Ole and Grace Sundsvold, siblings Barb Sundsvold, Elizabeth Dunn, and nephew Joshua Sundsvold.
The family wishes to express their gratitude for the care Corky received by St. Croix Hospice and Kanabec County Community Health.
A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mora on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at 10:30am with Fr. Timothy Gapinsky officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 at the church. The celebration will continue at Northwoods Steakhouse following the service. Honorary casket bearers are Corky's grandchildren, Michael Sundsvold, Chris Sundsvold, Taylor Sundsvold, Rachael Eye and Travis Eye.
