Obituary

Marlene Lucile (Christensen) (Eklund) Moss, daughter of Clarence and Lucile Christensen, was born January 2, 1945, in Moose Lake, MN and passed away on November 27, 2023 in Onamia, MN.  She lived and grew up in Isle, MN and graduated from Isle H.S. in 1962.

Marlene attended River Falls, WI State University from 1962-63 and graduated from UMD with a B.S. English Teaching degree in 1966. She taught high school English for one year in Wausau, WI, married Philip Eklund in 1967 and had two daughters, Nicole and Tamara.

After both girls were in school, Marlene started working for the defense contractor, McLaughlin Research Corporation (MRC) in Newport, RI. She married Dennis R. "Doc" Moss on July 3, 1982. Her career started as a proofer and editor for technical documents, on to printing specialist, to director of the Technical Library at the Life Cycle Support Facility (LCSF) at Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) and culminated as Project Manager of the LCSF. Marlene worked for MRC for 23 years before she and Doc moved back to Isle, MN and bought the home where she grew up.

When moving to Isle in 2000, Marlene applied for her substitute teaching license and spent more than 20 years doing what she loved-teaching children. She taught all subjects and grade levels from Pre-school to grade 12 as a substitute teacher in the Isle School District.

She is also survived by stepchildren, Terese (Peter) Andrews, Brian (Beth) Moss, and Jeffery (Sharon) Moss along with 7 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 3 great great-grandchildren on the Moss side of family; her sister, Joyce Benson and brothers, Randall (Dawn) Christensen and Ross (Leta) Christensen with their families, sister-in-law Martha Sloop, brothers-in-law, Michael (Pat) Moss, Stanley (Carolyn) Moss, many nieces and nephews and their families as well as cousins and families.

Marlene was always involved with her church as council member and president, Sunday School teacher, choir member, organist, worship and music team, and leader of WELCA at both St. Peter's Lutheran in Newport, RI and Faith Lutheran in Isle, MN.

Marlene has always been active in the community and many organizations including Navy League New Port, RI, VFW and MSA Auxiliaries, Lions Club, IREC board, and book club in Isle, MN.

Marlene loved being with family and friends and hosted an annual Christmas party almost every year from 1984 to 2017. Visits from or trips to see the grandkids were highlights of every year. She and Doc loved to travel and visited friends and family all over the U.S., attended over 20 Navy reunions for Doc's first ship (USS Thetis Bay), and cruised in the Med visiting historical spots in and around Turkey and Greece. Her hobbies included reading, scrapbooking, and needlework. She kept the history of the families in scrapbook form and family trees. Life was full and a wonderful adventure for 78 years. God Bless!
