Lucille "Lucy" V. Schultz died on Tuesday, December 12, 2023 at Eastwood Senior Living in Mora.  She was 88 years old.

Lucille (Lucy) Vivian Schultz, daughter of Walter and Margaret Beyer, was born on July 20, 1935, on their family farm in southern Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith. The family relocated to East Central Minnesota when Lucy was 3 years old. She attended grade school at Putman, District 63, and later graduated from Hinckley High School in 1953.

She was united in marriage to Donald Eugene Schultz of Mora on November 6, 1954, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Hinckley. They purchased their first home at 103 S. Vine Street in Mora shortly after they married.

The couple welcomed a son, Craig Donald, in 1955 and a daughter, Cheryl Lynn, in 1958. In 1978, Amy joined their family at the age of 9.

In 1964, the couple purchased a farm in Arthur Township, west of Mora, where they farmed until 1981. Having sold the family farm to their son Craig and his wife Jodi, the couple moved a hop-skip-and-a-jump away to a neighboring farm.

Lucille's life achievements were created from her spirited, intrinsic will to find a way through challenges as a passionate member of the community, mentor and friend. She owned L&R Accounting, preparing taxes for over 50 years. She was a proud member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 65 years, in which she served as a past president and organized countless Blood Mobiles. She was a loving wife of
Donald, a veteran who obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force. Lucy was actively involved at Grace Lutheran Church, enjoyed her time working with kids, and volunteered with 4- H Adventures, where she was fondly referred to as "the worm lady." She played an instrumental role in restoring the caboose as a committed member of the Kanabec County History Center. Lucy served as the Arthur Township Clerk for 32 years where she helped start the recycling center, implementation of the new zoning codes and progressively worked with the township supervisors.

She was a civic minded patriot, with love of family, fellow man, and country, rounded in her Christian faith. Second only to her faith, the most important role in her life was as the matriarch and cheerleader for her family. You often saw her at events for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren until her health declined.

Lucille's progressive ideals, civic spirit, and unwavering commitment to justice made her an indispensable staple of our community. Her legacy of strength, equality and love will forever resonate in our hearts.

Utilizing her various gifts and talents, or seeking to learn new ones, her hobbies included sewing, knitting, crocheting, gardening, farming, fishing, watching birds, and reading her Bible.

Our Lord peacefully called Lucy home on Tuesday, December 12, at the age of 88. Lucy's journey, from her humble beginnings on the family farm to her role as a devoted wife and mother, successful business owner, and community leader, reflects a life well-lived. Her tireless dedication to family, faith, and community will forever be remembered by those fortunate enough to have known her. May her spirit continue to inspire us all.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald; parents, Walter and Margaret Beyer; siblings, Pearl, Marcella and Gary.

Survivors include son, Craig Schultz, and wife Jodi, of Mora; daughter, Cheri Schultz of Houston, Texas; daughter Amy Schultz of Mora; grandson, Matt Schultz, and wife Amy, of Mora; granddaughter Christine Voparil, and husband Craig, of North Liberty, Iowa; Jeremy Schultz, and wife Beth, of Mora; Jenny Campbell, and husband Greg, of Bloomington Indiana; Heather Garbacz, and husband Chris, of Del City, Oklahoma. Lucy leaves behind a legacy of 16 great grandchildren, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at Grace Lutheran Church in Mora with Rev. Gary Guptill officiating.  Visitation will be held on Monday, December 18, 2023 from 5 until 7 P.M. at Dresser-Methven Funeral Home in Mora as well as one hour prior to the service at the church.  Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery.
