Obituary

Lois June Henkel was born on June 17, 1929 in Hutchinson, MN. She passed away on Wednesday March 18, 2026.

She lived in Cosmos, MN until the age of 3 years. The family moved to Minneapolis.

She graduated from North High in 1947. She had a long friendship with her high school group for many, many years. She is one of the few survivors.

She married LeRoy John Henkel on August 6, 1949. They lived in the Minneapolis area until 1991 when they moved to Giese, MN.

Lois worked starting at the early age of 12 at a root beer stand in MPLS; by the ripe old age of 13 she managed it. At 15 she worked at National Tea, later working for them part time.  After that she worked for Western Union for a number of years. While the children were young she worked for Country Club Markets. In 1970 she started working for the Robbinsdale School District #281 until her retirement in 1990.

They then, both being retired moved to Giese, MN. She and her husband traveled as much as they could. She kept busy with church and her clubs such as the Lois club, and card clubs. She enjoyed getting together with her family and grandchildren. She enjoyed hosting and cooking for the holidays and family gatherings, which have been and will continue to be greatly missed.

Her surviving family consists of: sons LeRoy Jr (Virginia) of Germantown WI, Lorne of Giese, MN; daughters Lori (Van) Tallman of Clearwater MN, and Linda (Harvey) Manteufel of Pardeeville, WI; seven grandchildren plus three step-grands;14 great- grandchildren plus 12-step, and 5 great-great grands all wonderful step bonuses. She is survived by her brother Courtney of Connecticut, cousins, many nieces and nephews.

She was proceeded in death by her husband LeRoy, parents Otto and Emma (Fischer) Steinke, Brother Warren Steinke, Sisters Marion Westerlund and LaVonne Rosenau, nephew John Hentges, niece Gail Westerlund.

She will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed. Forever in our hearts.

A funeral service will be held for Lois at 11am on Monday, March 23, 2026 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giese, MN with Pastor Richard Langhorst officiating. A visitation will be held from 9am to 11am at the church before the service.
