Lois Theo Babcock of Sandstone, MN passed away on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, with her loving family by her side at Golden Horizons in Sandstone, MN. She was 100 years old.
Born Lois Theo Witt to Edward and Blanche (Gibson) Witt on August 23, 1923, at the family farm in Markville, MN. She attended the Markville school and was an 8th grade graduate. No one could ever say that Lois wasn't a hard worker. She held jobs as a home aid, a healthcare aid, she worked in a book bindery, as a cabin girl at Webb Lake. Later on in life after moving to Sandstone Lois worked as a cook at the Sandstone Elementary School. On February 22, 1942, Lois married her best friend, Jack Warren Babcock. They lived in Markville for a few years before moving to their own farm, four miles west of town.
Lois and Jack raised four children, Warren (Betty) Babcock, Jerry Babcock, Laurel LaPierre, and Robert (Denise) Babcock. In 1972, the family moved to a home west of Sandstone, as Jack worked for the State of Minnesota. He worked in corrections first at the St. Croix Camp and then transferred to the Willow River Camp. In 1974 Jack passed away suddenly. Lois and Rob moved into town in 1976, where she resided until June1, 2023. At that time Lois moved into assisted living at Golden Horizons in Sandstone. Throughout her life Lois loved the outdoors, her two favorite things were fishing and watching birds, especially her beloved cardinals.
Lois is preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Jack; her parents, Edward and Blanche, sisters, Irene (Melvin) Babcock and Edwin "Bud" (Diane) Witt; a step grandson; a grandson; son in law, Richard LaPierre; and one great granddaughter.
Lois is survived by her four children, eleven grandchildren, and 19 great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Cross Church, formerly known as the Senior Dining Center on Saturday, September 9, 2023, from 1pm to 3pm. Internment will take place at Markville Cemetery in Markville, MN.
