Leonard James Bonander, age 88 of Sandstone, MN, died May 7, 2025 in Cape Coral, FL of natural causes.
Leonard was born on February 28, 1937 to parents Kermit and Lillian Bonander. Leonard married Patricia (Aune) Bonander for 44 years until her passing in 2005. They had four children, Leonard Jr., Jamison (Danyel) Patrick (Lea), Shannon (Bob). Grandchildren Jessica, Cassandra, Madison, Haley, Tory, Benjamin, Olivia, Marie, James, Monroe, and eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Kermit and Lillian, and baby Jamison.
Leonard was self-employed his whole life, running Americana Fireworks Display Company for 43 years. He was a major leader in the pyrotechnics industry. Leonard also was a restauranteur for decades. He owned a precision metal company, which manufactured auto alarms, sauna heaters, and precision parts for the NASA Apollo moon missions. Leonard loved adventures when he was younger and sailed down the Mississippi in a rowboat when he was 17 years old, the trip took him 27 days.
A Celebration of Life and funeral service will be held for Leonard on July 11, 2025 at the Train Park in downtown Sandstone, with a meet and greet starting at 11:30 a.m. and lunch at noon, with a service to follow. Internment will be at Spring Park Cemetery following the service.
