Laurel Alice
Larson
Mar 5, 1937 — Jul 21, 2026
Sandstone
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Laurel T. Larson on July 21, 2026. But also, we rejoice in her homecoming to Heaven. She is truly a good and faithful servant. Laurie's faith in Jesus has endured through many trials and tribulations throughout the many years. The last few words that Laurel spoke were "Praise God".
Laurel or Laurie as she liked to be called was born on March 3, 1937, in Jackson County, MN. Laurie was the youngest of her siblings, very much enjoying being the baby.
Laurie displayed elegance and grace throughout her many years. Laurie was hired as a model for several companies, which she very much enjoyed. Laurie met Jon Gary Larson, marrying him on July 18, 1961. They were unable to have children and adopted two children as babies, Sonya Larson (Peterson) and Troy Larson. Laurie and Gary purchased a lot at Pathfinders in Hinckley, with camping and fishing becoming a weekend ritual. As the children grew and moved on Laurie became an outreach counselor for the Billy Graham association. Her telephone position lasted close to 15 years.
Laurie and Gary developed a love for the Hinckley/Sandstone area and purchased a home with 40 wooded acres. Along with the new home came husky dogs and mostly stray cats with kittens.
Laurie and Gary became members of the Lions Club in Sandstone, serving them with honor. They both were dedicated members to the Sandstone Evangelical Free Church, claiming Pastor Chris and his family as their own.
Gary passed away on Thanksgiving Day two years ago.
Laurie was lucky to call her sister-in-law Marcia, one of her best friends, she loved all the precious treats and gifts of clothes from her. Her nieces Cari Eli and Kellie Phillips always remained close and would often send treats and gifts to Laurie as well as catching up often on the phone. Laurie attended a coffee group started by her best friend June Anderson. The group shared their faith and everyday life issues. Laurie loved this special group of friends.
Laurie was and is a great friend to many, always carrying on the position of Christian counselor to all she met or who came across her path. Laurie's faith is unwavering. Laurie developed heart issues in 2024. Then in 2025 she moved into Sherri Anderson home for assistance with her health care. She became a trusted friend and confidant to all in her home. Laurie loved our home and residents well. She is greatly missed.
Laurie is preceded in death by her husband, Gary; son, Troy; and many other family members and friends.
Laurie is survived by her daughter, Sonya (Todd) Peterson; brother, Jim (Marcia); granddaughters, Samantha Peterson, Criss Larson; daughter-in-law, Joy Larson; twin great granddaughters; along with many other nephews, nieces, and other relatives and friends.
Thank you to all who visited Laurie prior to her passing. I want you to know you brought smiles and love. Much needed in those last days.
