Larry E. Lewellyn, of Sandstone, Minnesota and Lehighton, Pennsylvania passed away on November 2, 2025, in Sandstone, Minnesota surrounded by family and friends.

Born and raised in Minnesota, Larry lived a life marked by service, devotion to country, and a deep appreciation for the outdoors. After graduating from Sandstone Senior High School, he enlisted in the United States Navy and spent 1 year, 11 months and 19 days in Vietnam with the River Division 572 (PBR - Brown Water Navy). Larry was awarded a Bronze Star w/"V" Device, Purple Heart w/1st OLC, Navy Commendation w/ Combat "V", Good Conduct Medal (Navy), Republic of Vietnam Civil Actions Unit Citation, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross w/ Palm Unit Citation, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal w/5 Service Stars. Before leaving Vietnam Larry distinguished himself with the River Patrol Flotilla Five by "actually participating in 401 river patrols in areas where enemy hostile fire was imminent. Those patrols included many highly dangerous night patrols. Larry was actually under hostile fire on 39 patrols".

After leaving the Navy, Larry enlisted in the United States Army dedicating more than 20 years before retiring as a Sergeant First Class in 1992 and returning to Pennsylvania.  Amongst his many U.S. Army awards included the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal w/2nd OLC, Good Conduct Medal 5th Award, and the two he was most proud of were the Parachute Badge and the Drill Sergeant Badge. His decades of military service reflected his steadfast sense of duty and loyalty-traits that could be used to describe him throughout his life.

Beyond his military career, Larry found his greatest joy in his family and in the simple beauty of the outdoors. He pursued a second career chasing his passion for adventure, spending 13 years traveling the country on the pro-bass tour. Hunting, fishing, and time in nature were not just hobbies for Larry-they were his refuge from his memories of Vietnam.

When asked, Larry would say that his most found memories were any that included his beloved wife, Mary Ann, and their son, George-whether it was a quiet morning on the lake, their years spent living abroad for the army, a fall day in the deer stand, or a family gathering filled with laughter and stories.

Larry will be remembered for his steady presence, his dry wit, and his unwavering commitment to those around him. His family and friends will miss his easy smile, his warm laugh and his big bear hugs. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary Ann (Trine) Lewellyn; his son, George Edward Lewellyn II (wife Beth Hanigan); and his daughter, Kimberly Lewellyn; sister Cindy Degerstrom (husband Kevin), brother Rick Lewellyn (wife Connie), nephews Ross Degerstrom (wife Lauren) and Eric Degerstrom (wife Kim); brother-in-law Carl Trine (wife Denise), sister-in-law Tammy Neff (husband Greg) and brother-in-law David Trine; multiple nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Maxine Lewellyn of Sandstone, Minnesota and the many loved brothers in arms who went before him.
