Kathy Sue O'Brien, a beloved wife, mother, and friend, passed away on November 15, 2025, at St. Mary's Hospital in Duluth, Minnesota. Born on March 10, 1954, in Tazewell, Virginia, Kathy's journey took her to various places, including Ohio, Virginia Beach, Morganton, NC, and finally to Hinckley, MN, where she made lasting memories.

Kathy had a vibrant spirit and a passion for education. She began her career as an Assistant Teacher for Early Childhood Education in Minnesota before taking on the role of a Correctional Officer, where she dedicated herself to public service. A published poet and talented artist, Kathy found joy in expressing herself through words and creativity. She was also known for her love of watching the news and court TV, always staying informed and engaged with the world around her.

Kathy shared a beautiful life with her husband, Jay O'Brien, whom she married on February 12, 1982. Together, they celebrated 43 wonderful years of marriage, filled with love, laughter, and cherished moments.

She is preceded in death by her son Jesse O'Brien.

Kathy is survived by her loving husband Jay O'Brien of Hinckley, her children; Todd Lawrence of Hinckley, Tiffany Guler of Northome, Julie O'Brien (James A.) Mills of Duncan, SC, granddaughter Whisper Kathy O'Brien of Cullowhee, NC, sister Diane Hunley and niece Betty Gilbert, both of Michigan.
