Karen Frances Dickson, a beloved mother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2025, at the age of 85 in Meadowlands, Minnesota. She was born on January 24, 1940, to George and Bessy Hanson in Minneapolis and spent her childhood in Brooklyn Center. Karen was a spirited student who walked from Brooklyn Center to Minneapolis to attend school.  She graduated from North High School in 1958.

On October 11, 1958, she married the love of her life, Thomas Dickson. The two enjoyed many happy years together, sharing a love of family, sports, and the great outdoors. Karen and Tom owned the Gilbert Bar and enjoyed cheering on their softball team in the summers, and she was a dedicated fan of the Minnesota Twins and Vikings. Their winters were often spent soaking up the sun in the Alabama Gulf Shores, and summers were filled with water skiing, fishing, and swimming at the family cabin near Blackberry and Lake Vermillion.

In her working life, Karen was part of the team at Montgomery Wards in the Virginia Mall before becoming a friendly face as a cashier at Fortune Bay Casino. She made countless friends and left a lasting impression on everyone she met.

Karen is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas, her parents, and her brother, Lee Roy Hanson. She leaves behind her four sons, David, Tim, Mike, and John, her daughter Cathy, as well as many grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She is also survived by her brothers, John (Caroline) Hanson from Brooklyn Center and Dennis (Nancy) Hanson from St. Paul.

A Memorial Service will take place at 11:00AM on Friday, November 21, 2025 at the Methven Funeral Chapel in Sandstone, Minnesota.  There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service.
