Askov
Joyce Marian Kroon, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully, on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. She was 88 years old. Born on April 27, 1936, in Askov, MN to Henry and Kristine (Jorgenson) Larson, she grew up in Askov attending school there as well. Joyce spent twenty wonderful years living in Sturgeon Lake before eventually returning to Askov, where she continued to live until recently moving to Golden Horizons in Sandstone, MN.
Joyce was married to her loving husband, James Kroon, and together they ran JK Baits in Sturgeon Lake, where they sold bait and candy, a delightful place for their grandkids to gather and create memories with their grandparents. For much of her career, Joyce dedicated herself as a health care worker and was co-owner of Main Street Grocery in downtown Askov. She was also an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Bruno, MN.
Joyce had a zest for life that was contagious. She loved line dancing in her younger years and could often be seen taking walks with her beloved dogs and cats. She cherished baking sessions with her sister Karen, enjoyed shopping trips with her sister Irene, and always loved feeding the birds and deer in her backyard. But nothing topped the joy of spending time with her family, especially her kids and grandkids, who brought endless happiness to her life.
Joyce was preceded in death by her loving husband James, her grandson Henry Kroon, brothers Leroy Larsen and Jens Henry, brothers-in-law Earl Johnsen and Bob Pigeon, sister-in-law Irene Larsen, and nieces Sandy and Jill Larsen.
She is survived by her daughters, Terry (Tom) Palya of Paris, TX, and Lori (Darrell) Loew of Askov, MN; sons Mike (Sue) of Mora, MN, Rocky of Askov, and Jimmy Lee (Tara) of Sturgeon Lake, MN. Joyce is also survived by ten grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, as well as her sisters Ede Pigeon of Ham Lake, MN, Irene (Warren) Nedeggard of LaCrosse, WI, and Karen Johsnen of Askov, along with her sister-in-law Joyce Larson of Askov.
A memorial service is being held for Joyce at 11a.m. on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at the Methven Funeral Home chapel, located at 114 5th Street, Sandstone, MN. Pastor Nate Anderson will be officiating. Burial will take place at Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery following the service and then a lite lunch will be served back at the funeral home.
