Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Josephine Ann Lee, affectionately known as JoAnn, who left us on August 14, 2026, at the age of 78. JoAnn was born on February 5, 1948, in Saint Paul, Minnesota, and grew up in a tight-knit family where she developed a deep love for life and an undeniable warmth that drew people in.

JoAnn proudly graduated from Central High School in 1966 and went on to work in various roles. While she enjoyed her time on the assembly line, her passion truly shone when she worked at a daycare, where she nurtured and cared for two-year-olds—finding joy in the laughter and wonder of little ones.

In 1974, she married her beloved husband, Bryan Lee, in a lovely ceremony in St. Paul, with the reception taking place at her mother’s charming home. Together, they raised two wonderful children, Amy and Joe, who brought endless joy to her life.

Throughout her years, JoAnn was an active participant in the Legion of Mary and cherished her time spent with family, especially while traveling to visit her three precious grandchildren: Ava (7), Eloise (6), and Fitzpatrick (4). Nothing made her heart soar more than reading bedtime stories, cheering them on at dance shows, and enjoying playful afternoons at the park.

JoAnn was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Leo and Helen Wilzbacher, and her brother, John, who passed away earlier this year.

She will be greatly missed by her husband, Bryan, children, Amy Hummel and Joseph Lee, grandchildren Ava, Eloise, and Fitzpatrick, her sister RoseMary (Bill) from Minnetonka, twin sister Betty from Ely, brother Tom (Lynn) from North Branch, and brother Jim from St. Paul.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, August 21, 2026 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Hinckley with Father Kristoffer McKusky officiating. Visitation will be from 10-11 A.M. at the church. Music is being provided by Joni Nelson. Casket bearers are Joe Lee, Nick Hummel, Chester Gust, David Lee, Barry Graber, and Ethan Hummel. Honorary casket bearer is Marc Hummel. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Finlayson.
