Joseph Lloyd Goulet (Weh Sah Gway Kaikaik) of Ogilvie, MN began his Sacred Journey to Creator on Monday, July 8, 2024. He was 75 years old.
Joseph Lloyd Goulet was born on September 1st, 1949 on Turtle Mountain Reservation in Walhalla North Dakota, however, he spent much of his life in Minnesota. In 1994 he attended the University of Minnesota where he received his certificate on drug and alcohol studies. In 1998 Lloyd graduated from the Native American Educational Services Inc. with a Bachelor of Arts degree in community studies and the Ojibwe language and culture.
Lloyd used his education to help him become an advocate for vulnerable communities. He started his work at Hennepin County where he worked with the chronic case management team, from there he continued his work and volunteered throughout many of the MN prisons. Lloyd aided and worked as an advocate for tribal minors who fell victim to family separation, and drug and alcohol abuse. Additionally he was a counselor at Mille Lacs Academy. He was a supporter and participant of Native American culture, ceremony, and teachings by bringing language, song, and dance into the school systems and into the State Prison System. Lloyd was also a Sundancer in North Dakota, and a member of the NH lntertribal Pow wows. His compassion and love for all people is what we all knew. Lloyd was humble, soft spoken, appreciative, and an incredible teacher to many. He was an amazing husband, father, brother, and uncle. He was so many things to so many people.
He was survived by wife Angela Goulet and children: Jesse Goulet, Melissa Goulet, Amy Goulet, Crystal Goulet, Haley Neunzer, Scott Smith, and Kayla Smith. He was also survived by his eight grandchildren: Cerina, Caillou, Elise, Emma, Elina, Quincy, Michael, Aubree, Ann and Aries. He was also survived by his brothers Joseph Rodney (Wife Barbara) Goulet and Gerald (Wife Denise) Goulet, and his sisters Dorothy Schell and Donna Gunsolley.
He was preceded by parents Joseph Arthur Goulet and Lena Mae Bartlette Goulet, daughter Charlie Faye Goulet, Siblings: Joseph Mearl Goulet, Louis Goulet. Deloris Chambers, Joseph Earl Goulet, Joseph Audrey Goulet, Joseph Andry Goulet, Louise Foster, Remona Hoffman, Joseph Marvin Goulet, Joseph Marlin Goulet, and Judy Cook.
Joseph will be cremated on Friday, July 11, 2024, with a Celebration of Life Ceremony on Saturday, July 20, 2024, from 1pm to 4pm at Dresser Methven Funeral Home, located at 124 Maple Ave E, Mora, MN 55051. Followed by Traditional Ceremony and Feast at Lloyd and Angie's Animal Rescue Shelter/Home. 2067 Hwy 47, Lot #2, Ogilvie, MN. 56358. Military honors at the funeral home are being provided by Mora American Legion Post 201.
