John Herman Vossen, age 82, of Isle, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2025.

Born on June 18, 1943, in Windom, Minnesota, John was the son of Herman Joseph Vossen and Dorothy Walborga (Bulfer) Vossen.  He grew up with strong Midwestern values and work ethics and carried them with him throughout his life.

John earned a Bachelor of Science in Business from the University of Minnesota, where he was also a proud and active member of the Alpha Kappa Psi professional business fraternity. The friendships he made during those years remained an important and enduring part of his life.

John is survived by his son, Shane Vossen, and daughter-in-law, Vicki (Thurston) Vossen; as well as his six beloved grandchildren: Neda (20), Thomas  (19), Mark  (18), Joy (17), Lorenzo (13), and Chayton (11).

He is also survived by his brother Joseph Vossen and sister-in-law Beth (Spielman) Vossen; his sister Patricia Vossen; and his brother Paul Vossen and sister-in-law Lisa Vossen.  John was a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews, and his presence in the extended family will be deeply missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman (2001) and Dorothy (2006); his sister, Jean Ellison (1977); his brother, Dennis Vossen (2013); and his sister, Mary Vossen (1997), and Ex-wife Mary Lou Martin (2022).

John spent his early career working for Pepsi-Cola as a route manager.  He would go on to manage several large independent grocery stores.  The peak of his professional career was in Northern California in the 1980's and 1990's when he ran the largest and most profitable U-Haul center on the West Coast.

John would often say the proudest moment in his life was when Shane graduated from St.Cloud State University in 1996.

John loved classical music, watching Minnesota Twins games, enjoying fine California wine and traveling as much as he could.  He loved to watch Jeopardy and match wits with son Shane.

In his retirement John loved spending time with his grandchildren and buying them ridiculous gifts.

The family will be holding a private memorial in the near future.  In honor of John's life, the family encourages everyone to hold their loved ones close, cherish the time you have together, and never take a single day for granted. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
