Mora

Obituary

John Gordon Nelson, of Mora, passed away on August 21st at CentraCare Hospital in St. Cloud, he was 67 years old.

John was born at the Naval Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland to Dorothy (Patterson) and Gordon Nelson. He was the youngest of four and the only boy. His dad was a 30 year Navy chief, so the family moved around quite a bit, living on various military bases. Later in life, John moved to
Swanville, Minnesota near his parents who had a family farm in the area. He spent a lot of time working on the farm with his dad and worked as a baker and bakery manager for both SuperValu and Coborn's throughout his professional career. His professional career took him to
St. Cloud for a portion of his adult life until he moved to Isanti and then Mora to be closer to his sons, Jordan and Riley. He lived in Mora until his passing.

In his youth, John loved being in the ocean and enjoyed surfing. He always loved to tell stories about how he would sleep under his van on the beaches in the Carolinas and Virginia. As he got older and moved to Minnesota, he still found ways to spend time outdoors and enjoyed fishing,
golfing, and simply being outside with his dad. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles, classic movies, and learning about military history.

After his retirement, he loved to visit the local pawn shop at the corner of his street in Mora and became close friends with the owner, Bob. He also supported his sons hobbies and ambitions by attending Jordan's Quamba Cubs games, becoming the go to dog-sitter for Jordan's dogs, Bama and Wrigley, and frequenting Riley's new business, JR's Repair Services. He was happiest sitting outside just looking at the trees, feeding the squirrels, smoking cigars, watching Japanese anime shows (even though he didn't know what they were saying), and spending time with his kids. He was always very laid back, absolutely loved telling a story, didn't take crap from anyone, and did what he wanted. He will be deeply missed by all those who loved him.
