John Edward Vermeersch II "Johnny Fingers" passed peacefully with his wife by his side as they listened to his favorite music on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at their home. He was 57 years old.

John was born in Mankato, MN, the youngest in a family of eight siblings. His mom LaVonne, insisted that he and his sister Liz have adventures, including driving to Alaska and walking from Mankato to Brainerd, MN.

When John was in his teens, his family relocated to upstate New York. It was there in the Woodstock area that John found his lifelong passion for music. He learned to play guitar and other instruments from some prominent musicians. He would make a trip back to Woodstock later to record his album "Beyond the End of Happy Road". His life's path found him back in Minnesota in the early 1990's. He worked various trades by day and was a working musician by night. He earned the moniker "Johnny Fingers" when he successfully cracked a safe at Rob's Mahtowa Tavern. He was skilled at diagnosing and fixing everything from stringed instruments to industrial bakery equipment.

At age 51, John met the love of his life, Deb, at a music jam in Nickerson. They married and made their home in the Bruno area. Together they enjoyed playing music with friends, performing at local bars, going to concerts and music festivals.

John will be remembered for his quick wit and kindness. He attracted many friends and brought good times and vibes to people wherever he went. John had a heart of gold and would give the shirt off his back to help someone.

John is preceded in death by his parents, Louis and LaVonne; stepmom, Bernie; partner, Tieka; and "Ma" Dolly Niemi.

John is survived by his wife, Deb; son, John; brothers, Mike (Pat), Joe (Kathy), Tom (Cindy), Chuck (Mary Ann); sisters, Cathie, Mary Kay (Jim), Liz; many nieces and nephews; and his Siberian Husky, Thor, who will miss him dearly.

A Celebration of John's Life will be held Saturday June 1st, starting with daytime events, including potluck, reflection/remembrance time at 3, and music, will be held at the outdoor patio at the Bear's Den in Bruno from 1-6.  This will be followed by a bonfire and more music at Deb's place, 69780 Wolf Creek Road, Bruno, MN.
