Obituary

Joan Marian Soebbing, fondly known as "Joanie", peacefully passed away on October 15, 2023, at her residence in Mora, Minnesota, surrounded by her loving family. Born on January 6, 1935, in Owatonna, Minnesota, she was the daughter of Decloise and Marian (Deeg) Eskra.

Joanie graduated from St. Paul Central High School in 1952 and embarked on a beautiful journey of love and commitment when she married her beloved husband, William "Bill" Soebbing, on June 25, 1955, at Merriam Park Presbyterian Church in St. Paul, Minnesota. Together, they shared a remarkable bond, filled with cherished memories and incredible adventures.

Devoting her time and talents to various endeavors, Joanie was a dedicated secretary at Christ Lutheran Church in Blaine, Minnesota. She also served as the editor of the Knife Lake Sportsmen's Club newsletter and volunteered enthusiastically at the Mora Food Pantry, providing support and compassion to those in need.

Joanie had a passion for nurturing life through her green thumb, spending countless hours cultivating her garden with love. She also delighted in knitting and crocheting, creating beautiful heirlooms that will be treasured by her loved ones for generations to come.

Family was the cornerstone of Joanie's life, and nothing brought her more joy than doting on her cherished grandchildren. She was their biggest cheerleader, attending their events and celebrations with unwavering support and love.

In her leisure time, Joanie relished the tranquility of the old lake cabin in McGregor, Minnesota. She often joined Bill for fishing excursions, creating lasting memories amidst the serene beauty of the outdoors.

Joanie is preceded in death by her daughter, Cynthia "Cindy" (Soebbing) Caughron.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 68 years, William Soebbing of Mora, Minnesota; her loving sister, Janean Berggren of Forest Lake, Minnesota; her beloved son, Michael Soebbing of Hamilton, Montana; her caring son-in-law, Rob Caughron of Savage, Minnesota; her adored granddaughter, Mackenzie Soebbing of Missoula, Montana; and her cherished grandson, Kyle Soebbing of Savage, Minnesota. Additionally, she leaves behind many dear friends and neighbors who were touched by her lifetime of service to her family and community.

A visitation to celebrate Joanie's remarkable life will take place on October 23, 2023, at Calvary Lutheran Church, beginning at 10:00 am. A funeral service, honoring her legacy, will follow at 11:00 am at the same location with Pastor Dean Oelfke officiating.

Joanie's departure leaves a void in the lives of those who loved her. However, her spirit and the memories she created will forever be a guiding light, reminding us to live with love, compassion, and gratitude. May her soul find solace in the heavenly abode, where she will continue to watch over her beloved family, friends, and community.
