Obituary

Jean Audrey (Kampfer) Olsen of Sandstone, MN passed away peacefully at Serenity Court Assisted Living on Wednesday, December 6, 2023. She was 93 years old.

Jean was born and raised on the east side of St. Paul, MN and was the oldest of four children.  She would sometimes share stories about the challenges of growing up during the Depression and World War II. Jean graduated from Harding High School in 1948 and immediately began working as a bookkeeper for a local oil company.  During her first marriage, she lived and raised her children in northwestern Wisconsin and kept the books for Bailey's in Brule, WI after her children were all of school age.  In her younger years, Jean was an avid water skier and occasionally entertained her children with spontaneous cartwheels. In 1970, she married Maurice Olsen and relocated to the St. Paul, MN area, where she was the executive in charge of finance for the Minnesota Baptist Conference. After retiring, Jean and Maury moved to their home in Bruno, where they celebrated 53 years of marriage. Jean was an accomplished seamstress, and her rosemaled pieces could be seen and admired throughout the house, peeking out among her many collectables and kitchen treasures. She had a keen sense of humor and was known for her creative use of puns.

Jean is preceded in death by: parents Carl and Evelyn Kampfer; sister Corinne and brother-in-law Wallace Olsen; sister Corinne Olsen Scarcitelli; brother Donald Kampfer; step-daughter Laurice Olsen.

Jean is survived by her loving husband, Maurice Olsen of Bruno and Sandstone, MN; sister, Mary Lou (Phillip) Sanders of Stillwater, MN; daughters, Laurel (Larry) Knowlton of Porter, ME; Karen (Jim) Thalacker of Montello, WI; son David (Debra) Brygger of Barnes, WI; step-sons Bill (Sher) Olsen of St. Paul, MN and John Olsen of St. Paul, MN; step-daughter Judy (John) Kirkwood of St. Paul, MN; 8 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.

Jean will be lovingly remembered by family and friends for her warm smile, kind spirit, and love of family.

In lieu of flowers the family is asking memorials be made in Jean's name to Danforth Community Church, 57092 Wolf Creek Rd, Bruno, MN 55712 or Pine County Historical Society, 6333 HC Anderson Alle, Askov, MN 55704.
