Mora
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Jean Alice Eliason, of Mora, Minnesota, who left us on July 3, 2025. She was 94 years old. Jean was born on September 21, 1930, in Minneapolis, MN, Jean was the beloved daughter of William and Hazel Snellman.
Jean graduated from Richfield High School and went on to pursue her passion for teaching at the University of Minnesota. In 1954, she began her teaching career in Braham but found her true home at Mora High School, where she taught Home Economics until her retirement in 1999.
On March 29, 1958, she married the love of her life, LaVern Eliason, at Diamond Lake Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. Together, they created a loving home filled with laughter and adventure. Jean was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary starting in 1973, where she dedicated her time and served in various roles, including president.
Jean was known for her impeccable sense of style—always put together from head to toe—and for her sparkling personality that lit up a room. Her witty remarks and delightful expressions, like her famed "Oh my stars and garters," brought joy to those around her.
Jean had a passion for shopping, especially at Dayton's, and loved visiting craft fairs with her best friend Lynnae, adding to their treasured collections. She cherished time spent with close friends and found solace in reading.
Some of her happiest times were spent camping with LaVern and traveling across the country in their motorhome with their beloved German Shepherds, who she always referred to as her "boys." After LaVern's passing, she joyfully welcomed a cat named White Legs into her life, who brought her comfort and companionship in her later years.
Jean is preceded in death by her father, William Snellman, her mother, Hazel (Thomson) Snellman, her husband LaVern, and his parents Roy and Alma Eliason, Sister-in-law, Mary Ann (Harvey) Giffrow and niece Holly Giffrow-Bos.
