It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of James Jay Niver, who passed away peacefully at his home in Askov, MN, on February 25, 2025, at the age of 86. He was surrounded by his loving family in his final moments.

James was born on October 26, 1938, in Minneapolis, MN, to Lloyd and Berdina (Hansen) Niver. He graduated from Lakeville Senior High School and proudly served in the Army from 1961 to 1963. After his service, he married the love of his life, Mary Ellen Damann.

Throughout his life, James held a variety of jobs that showcased his diverse skills. He started out as a mechanic and a tow truck driver at Grover Pure Oil, where he also pumped gas. He later transitioned to Contour Plastics, setting up molding machines, and ultimately found his true calling at Dispatch Industries, where he dedicated 23 years as a Class A Electric Installer before retiring.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Berdina; his grandparents, Hans and Barbara Hansen, and Earl Niver; and beloved uncles, Harvey, Elwood, and Alnor Hanson.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 64 years, Mary; his daughter, Sandra Lee (Kevin) Klingfuss; his son, Michael Jay (Paula) Niver. He was a proud grandfather to Megan Elaine (Daniel) Merchiewitz, Mariah Elizabeth (Jeremy) Herkenhoff, and cherished great-grandfather to Jaxson Jay, Liam Vincent, Skyler Elaine, and Rizzo James. James is also survived by his brother, Dennis Michael (Patricia) Niver and his faithful companion, Harley.

A Celebration of Life is being planned for a later date. His family will announce the details soon.
