Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James "Jim" John Meier, who left us on February 19, 2026, at the age of 83, in his beloved home in Finlayson, MN. Jim was born on August 16, 1942, in St. Paul, MN to John and Jennie (Leustek) Meier.

After graduating from Humboldt High School in West St. Paul, Jim went on to work at Armours in South St. Paul for 17 years until the plant closed and left the state. Jim then went to work for Hoffman Engineering in Anoka as a warehouse coordinator for 25 plus years retiring in 2004. On May 26, 1962, Jim married the love of his life, Audrey F. Schuett, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giese, MN. Together, they created a wonderful family and enjoyed countless adventures together that were full of love and laughter.

An avid sportsman at heart, Jim spent countless days hunting and fishing both in the summer and winter months, pursuing his passions across Minnesota, Wyoming, Montana, South Dakota, and Colorado. He loved sharing these experiences with his four sons, who carry on his passion. He was not only a dedicated outdoorsman but also enjoyed playing horseshoes, bowling, and being part of the trap league. Jim was always up for a bit of friendly competition. He was actively involved with the Finlayson Sportsman Club, served as a past director of the MN North Deer Hunters Association and a union steward while at the Armours plant in S. St. Paul. Jim was always a welcoming presence as an usher and greeter for 30 years at Peace Lutheran Church.

Outside of sports, he found joy in making wreaths and selling birch branches. For three decades, friends often saw Jim's old pickup loaded up for weekend trips to their cherished cabin by Giese, a tradition that continued until he and Audrey moved to Finlayson in 1999.

Jim leaves behind his loving wife, Audrey, and their four sons: Lance (Melanie), Matthew (Deb), Thomas (Dianne), and Daniel (Ashley). He was also a proud grandfather to Thane, Alecia, Savanna, Katie, Nicole, Tanner, Vanessa, Conner, and Jack, as well as a great-grandfather to Alice, Surya, Audrey, Violet, Ella, Isaac, August, Elizabeth, and one more on the way! He is survived by his sister, Barbara Meier, and sister-in-law, Shirley McVenes.

To honor Jim's life, a memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at 12 PM at Peace Lutheran Church in Finlayson, MN, with Pastor Konkel officiating. Visitation will take place from 10 AM to 12 PM at the church before the service. Lunch will be served following the service. Jim's burial will take place at a later date.
