James "Jim" Belt was born in Princeton, Illinois on July 10, 1940. He passed away peacefully on August 6, 2025, at Welia Health in Mora, MN, with his daughters at his side.

Jim was united in marriage to Judith Ann Beelman on August 4, 1963, in Fort Madison, Iowa. Together, they built a life filled with love. They spent time living in Indianapolis and St. Cloud before settling in Mora, Minnesota, in 1970. Their first daughter, Beth, was born in 1972, and she was soon followed by her sister, Jenny, in 1973.

Jim dedicated his career to education, working first as a science teacher in Indianapolis before moving to Minnesota, where he finished his career at Mora High School, retiring in 2000. He was a teacher in the truest sense as he was curious, patient, and committed to helping young people grow and learn.

In 2006, Judy was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, and Jim devoted his life to caring for her when she needed him most, which is a true reflection of his loyalty and enduring love.

Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Judy; his mother; and Judy's parents. He leaves behind two daughters who adored him: Beth Brandt (Chip) and Jenny Berry (Rich). He also leaves four grandchildren who were the lights of his life: Lauren and Tanner Berry, and Kendall and Keaton Brandt. His pride in them was endless, and his face lit up whenever he spoke of them.  He is also survived by his four-legged friend, Sage, who was a constant companion.

An avid outdoorsman, Jim looked forward to fall hunting trips and summer fishing excursions with his friends. He spent countless hours building custom fishing rods and monitoring his bluebird houses, always finding peace and purpose in the natural world.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.  The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Welia Health for the exceptional care and kindness they showed him.

Jim never liked being the center of attention, and he made it known he didn't want a fuss. So, in classic Jim fashion, there will be no public memorial service; just some quiet moments of remembering him, preferably while fishing or watching the birds.
