Jacob "Jake" Ellis Otterstetter, age 79, passed away on December 2, 2023.

Jacob was born August 10, 1944 to Jacob and Minnie Jane (Evenson) Otterstetter in Jamestown, ND. At 4 years old his family moved to Eagle Bend, MN. He graduated from Eagle Bend High School and went on to obtain his Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Moorhead State. For 11 years he taught physical education and coached track and field, football, and basketball at East Chain High School and baseball and softball at Ledyard, IA High School. Jake moved on to being an insurance agent working for Horace Mann for 21 years, earning many accolades. Lastly, becoming an owner and agent of Greens Point Insurance Agency in Brainerd, MN.

Jake was married to Mary Jo (Sarff) and was blessed with their beloved daughter, Catherine. On Dec. 14, 1991, he married Agnes (Haberman) Otterstetter. With his wife, Agnes, Jake traveled the world. They traveled to Africa, Canada, Hawaii, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Austria, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Belarus, Russia, Alaska, and Papua New Guinea. Jake and Agnes spent many years as "snowbirds" in Alamo, Texas. He embraced having his children and grandchildren visit, providing many vacation memories. His grandchildren enjoyed learning to shoot, swimming, hunting, golfing, and playing cards with him.

Jake was an AVID sports enthusiast! He enjoyed watching ALL sports and a good movie. He also enjoyed Agnes's cooking, reading, watching Sunday morning political shows and Bill Maher, fishing, hunting, and golfing with all his buddies, and a good cigar! There was a special place in his heart for his cats, Bird and Corky. Jake was accepting, honest, and loyal. He was a friend to many and a loving husband to Agnes.

Jake will be deeply missed by his wife, Agnes. He is also survived by his stepchildren Cliff (Kelly Ponto) Watrin, Annamaria (Ketema) Watrin, Elizabeth (Duane) Klar, Michele (Lansing) Shepard; grandchildren Noah Lahtinen, Matthew (Jessica) Klar, Katie (Patrick) Hagen, Mahlet, Yodit, Pomi Aschenaki, Hanna Ketema, Cyrus Watrin; great-grandchildren Peter and Oliver Hagen. Foreign exchange student Vojko Mucnik.

Jake was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Catherine Lahtinen and parents Jacob and Minnie Otterstetter.

A Prayer Service will be held on Monday, December 11 at 11:00. Visitation prior from 10:00-11:00 at Methven Funeral Home in Hinckley, MN.

A Graveside Service with Interment, with Pastor Kali Christensen officiating, will be on Wednesday, December 13 at 1:00, in Eagle Bend, MN. Swedish Immanuel Cemetery 16675 County Rd 78, Eagle Bend, MN.
