Obituary

Hazel Madre Stahl, 83, resident of Mora, MN, died on Saturday, May 2nd, 2026. She was born on the family farm in Opstead, MN on April 1st, 1943 to William "Bill" and Elvera "Tillie" Stahl.

Hazel attended Central Grade School through the 5th grade, followed by Isle ISD #473 from 6th grade until graduating in 1961. She worked in the audit department at Fidelity Bank in Minneapolis from 1961 – 1968. Hazel became a mother to her beloved daughter, Kari, in 1968 and stayed home to raise her for a couple of years. She then worked for North Memorial Hospital from 1970 – 1972. Hazel moved to Mille Lacs soon after where she worked for a fish tackle shop making spinning bobs. She became employed by Isle ISD #473 in 1976 as the bookkeeper for both elementary and high school, responsible for all financial affairs, even having to learn as everything became computerized during her career there. Hazel earned retirement in 2002, which allowed her plenty of time to enjoy her hobbies; traveling, cross-stitching, playing the piano and organ, making gifts for loved ones, and spending quality time with friends.

Above all else, Hazel cherished her family; she was a devoted mother and grandmother. Hazel was a faithful woman who regularly attended church and was sure to read her bible each day. She was a dedicated member of Opstead Baptist Church and also attended Isle Evangelical Free Church and Emmanuel Baptist Church through the years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Elvera; brother, Lee Stahl; and brother-in-law, Dennis Kohlgraf.

Hazel's deep love for her family will be cherished and remembered by her daughter, Kari (Joe) Kothrade-Deose; grandchildren, Daniel Gregoire II, Stephanie Gregoire, Jacqueline (Jeremy) Stich, Geoffrey (Halaina) Gregoire, Brian Deose, Branden Deose, and Trista Deose; 19 great-grandchildren; her first great-great grandchild on the way; siblings, Everette Stahl, Richard (Nancy) Stahl, and Louise Kohlgraf; sister-in-law, Judy Stahl; and numerous other family members and countless friends she met through school, church, and Anytime Fitness.

A gathering of family and friends to honor Hazel's life will be held at Dresser-Methven Funeral Home in Mora on Friday, May 29th, 2026 from 4:00 – 7:00 pm. She will be laid to rest in Opstead Baptist Cemetery.
