Obituary

Gladys Irene Jensen Johnson, age 94, of Sandstone, MN passed away peacefully on April 4, 2022 with her family by her side.

Gladys Johnson was born in Askov, Minnesota on January 27, 1928 to Jacob and Camilla Jensen. She graduated from Askov High School in 1946.  Gladys married the love of her life, Marvin C. Johnson, on July 15, 1950 in a beautiful garden setting at her parent's home in Askov, MN.  They were blessed with two daughters, Pam and Marilyn, that were their pride and joy.

Gladys worked as a secretary at Askov High School and as a Dental Assistant for the Askov Dental Program.  After marrying Marvin, she was instrumental in their building construction business. She managed the business books and was always ready to assist Marvin in any way he needed her.  They had fifty amazing years together filled with a lifetime of memories.

Gladys's passion for her church was evident in her involvement with ministry, care and prayer. It was important to Gladys to be involved in her community.  She was treasurer for the City of Bruno for thirty seven years and served on the election board.  She also served on the Pine County Housing Authority Board, American Cancer Society, and Ski-a-than.  Gladys was always willing to lend a hand by volunteering at the elementary school, Bruno Thrift Store, Pine County Museum, and Christian Women's Club.

Gladys lived in Bruno, MN for sixty three years and enjoyed entertaining in her home, caring for her yard, gardening, flowers, and oh how she loved her birds.  She moved to the Wild River Apartments in Sandstone, MN where she has lived for eight years and built many friendships.

Most important to Gladys was her faith in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  Her faith was reflected in her love for her family, friends, neighbors and strangers.  Gladys was relentless in her ability to put others first and ensure happiness to all those around her.  She also liked anything strawberry.

Gladys was preceded in death by her husband Marvin Johnson, parents Jacob and Camilla Jensen, brothers Clifford Jensen, Harold Jensen and infant brother Jensen.

Gladys is survived by her daughters Pam (Dave) Hogberg of Sandstone, MN and Marilyn Johnson of Shoreview, MN; grandson Joshua (Stacey) Hogberg of Spring Valley, MN and their children Ezra and Levi; grandson Joel (Jamie) Hogberg of Pine City, MN and their children Caleb, Micah, Nathan, and Josiah; and many nephews and nieces.
